Iran president opens new Turkmenistan-Iran gas link

<div><p>Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Wednesday inaugurated a new gas pipeline link to Iran from its energy-rich neighbour Turkmenistan, which he said would take ties to a "new level."</p><p>Ahmadinejad, on his first trip abroad since a crackdown on opposition supporters in Tehran left at least eight dead, launched the pipeline which will more than double the supply of Turkmen gas to Iran to 20 billion cubic metres annually.</p><p>"The gas pipeline that is being opened today will take our relations to a new level," the Iranian leader said at the launch, also attended by his counterpart Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov.</p><img src="http://admatch-syndication.mochila.com/images/ad.gif?aid=66316320&bid=informcom" /></div><div id="copyright"><div>
